A card break (or "breaking") is an exciting way for multiple collectors to share in the opening of sealed sports card products, such as boxes or cases. Instead of purchasing an entire expensive box or case yourself, you can purchase a "spot" in a break. The product is then opened live on camera by a host (the "breaker"), and the cards pulled are distributed to participants based on the type of break they joined. It’s a fantastic way to potentially acquire valuable cards from high-end products at a fraction of the cost, all while enjoying a live, interactive community experience.

In a Serial Number Break, participants purchase spots corresponding to the last digit of a card’s serial number (e.g., 1/99, 2/99, ..., 9/99, 0/99 for cards numbered to 99). There are typically 10 spots available (0 through 9). If a card pulled from the break is serial numbered, it goes to the participant whose spot matches the last digit of that serial number. For example, if you have spot "5" and a card numbered 35/99 is pulled, that card is yours. Cards that are not serial numbered are often distributed randomly among all participants, or via another predetermined method outlined before the break begins.

In a Player Break, participants purchase specific players from a checklist for a particular product or set of products. If any card featuring a player you’ve purchased is pulled during the live break, that card belongs to you. This type of break is ideal for collectors who are focused on acquiring cards of their favorite players or specific prospects. The price of each player spot can vary based on their popularity and potential value.

A Team Break is one of the most common types. Participants purchase an entire team (e.g., the Los Angeles Lakers in a basketball break). Any card pulled from the product that features a player from the team you purchased belongs to you. If a card features players from multiple teams, the break rules will typically specify how such cards are awarded (e.g., randomized between the team owners, or goes to the team listed on the card).

In a Random Team Break, participants purchase a spot, and teams are then randomly assigned to each spot before the break begins. This offers a chance to get a high-value team for a lower, flat entry price, but it also means you don’t get to choose your team. All cards pulled for a specific team go to the participant who was randomly assigned that team.
